Rekha was overcome with emotion as she conferred 5th Yash Chopra Memorial Awards on Asha Bhosle.

Rekha and Asha Bhosle go way back. Who can forget Rekha’s performance and Asha tai’s singing in Umrao Jaan? As the veteran actor and legendary singer met again at the 5th Yash Chopra Memorial Awards, it was magic once more.

Bhosle, 84, whose illustrious music career spans nearly seven decades and recorded over 11,000 songs in 20 different languages, was selected for the award instituted in the memory of the filmmaker.

Bhosle and Rekha were dressed in cream-and-gold sarees and couldn’t be happier to see each other. While Rekha first greeted the singer with a peck on the cheek, she also touched her feet as she presented the award to Asha. She was conferred with Yash Chopra Memorial Award for her outstanding contribution to the Hindi film industry. Rekha also said that she has a special place in her heart for Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar.

The award jury members comprising Chopra’s wife Pamela Chopra, filmmakers Boney Kapoor, Madhur Bhandarkar, singer Alka Yagnik, actor Padmini Kohlapure, scriptwriter Honey Irani, and Anu and Shashi Ranjan made the announcements earlier this year.

The list of previous recipients include the likes of melody queen Lata Mangeshkar and actors Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha, and Shah Rukh Khan.

The award has been instituted by MP T Subbarami Reddy in the memory of Chopra, who died in 2012, in association with Anu Ranjan and Shashi Ranjan. The award also carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh.

Others who were present at the event included Parineeti Chopra, who looked beautiful in a off-shoulder top and a silk skirt, Jackie Shroff, singer Alka Yagnik, Poonam Dhillon, Padmini Kolhapure and Pam Chopra.
