Avengers Endgame trailer: From Captain Marvel to time travel, here are 5 major takeaways from the final trailer for the most anticipated film of the year.

Even though so little was revealed in the latest Avengers: Endgame trailer, there’s new information to disseminate in virtually every frame. Marvel Studios dropped the third (and possibly final) Avengers: Endgame trailer on Thursday.

The 2.5-minute trailer not only seem to have confirmed popular fan theories about the hotly anticipated Marvel film, but it also set the tone - a mixture of nostalgia and emotional drama. There is precious little action on display, because presumably, most of it takes place in the latter half of the film - and Marvel has suggested that the marketing material will be restricted to the opening 30 minutes.

There will surely be more to discuss in the coming days, but here are the top five takeaways from the new Avengers: Endgame trailer:

Quantum Realm

Perhaps the biggest revelation of the trailer comes at the end, with the hero shot of the surviving Avengers heading into battle, dressed in brand new uniforms. This not only confirms the Quantum Realm theory, but also retroactively corroborates the scores of leaked images of promotional art and toys that have been circulated online.

‘Start over’

Of all the lines spoken in the trailer, none is more loaded than Peggy Carter’s reprisal of her words spoken in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. “The world has changed,” she says, “none of us can go back, all we can do is our best, and sometimes the best we can do is to start over.” The ‘starting over’ bit is the most interesting, considering how most of the conversation around the film has touched on the possibility of alternate dimensions being introduced into the MCU, thereby allowing old characters to organically make way for the new.

Billing

In another neat move, if you look closely at the billing at the top of the new poster, you’d notice that only the actors who play the surviving characters are listed. There’s no mention of Chris Pratt, Chadwick Boseman or Tom Holland, who for all intents and purposes have been lost, and therefore no longer a part of the film. We all know otherwise, however. But nice try, Marvel.

Captain Marvel

The trailer stinger shows Thor meeting Carol Danvers, who was shown arriving on Earth at the end of Captain Marvel. ‘I like this one,’ Thor says, indicating the beginning of a fun new relationship. It remains to be seen if the Captain Marvel post-credits scene will be included in Endgame or if we’ll pick up with Carol already having been introduced.

Black Widow’s hair

While it’s easy to make fun of Scarlett Johansson’s ever-changing hairstyle and chalk it down to Marvel wanting to sell new toys, in this case, with time travel a very real possibility, it’s interesting to note the change in Black Widow’s hairstyle. In previous trailers, Johansson retains her blonde Infinity War locks, although in this one, she’s reverted to her red hair. Notice that she once again has the blonde hair during the Thor-Carol scene, suggesting that the switch happens only after the Avengers embark on their mission.
