Benedict Cumberbatch, who in Avengers Infinity War foresaw 14 million outcomes for how the Avengers’ fight with Thanos could end, says this one Avengers 4 element left him ‘thrilled, thrilled, thrilled and thrilled’.

Benedict Cumberbatch knows a thing or two about cliffhangers. The Sherlock star spoke about reading the script for Avengers 4 for the first time, and said that he was “thrilled, thrilled, thrilled and thrilled.”

In an interview to The Star, Cumberbatch, who plays Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, said, “I was thrilled. Thrilled, thrilled, thrilled and thrilled with the pitch for the second film. And thrilled by the ingenuity of the whole thing. And to be in an audience and experience that was something else. I’ve been part of Sherlock, with a very famous cliffhanger. It’s a very brave thing for movies that are that big, bold and colourful.”

Cumberbatch famously predicted in Avengers: Infinity War that there was only one possible outcome out of 14 million in which the Avengers could beat the supervillainous Thanos. At the end of the film, Doctor Strange meditates and tells Tony Stark that he has forseen all possible outcomes for their war against the Mad Titan. Doctor Strange also says that the war is now entering its end game. End Game, incidentally, has been floated online as a possible title for the fourth Avengers film.

Cinematographer Trent Opaloch listed on his resume that he has worked on a film called Avengers: End Game, but the title was soon edited to Avengers 4 after fans noticed.

Marvel chief Kevin Feige has said that the film’s title will be revealed towards the end of this year and closer to the release of Captain Marvel, which will lead into the fourth Avengers movie, billed as the epic conclusion to this version of the MCU.

Doctor Strange was one of several Avengers to have been reduced to dust at the end of Infinity War. It has long been rumoured that the next film will have a plot which has the surviving Avengers either travel back in time or into an alternate dimension to save the ‘dead’ superheroes.

Avengers 4 has been scheduled for a May 2019 release, and if the blabbermouth Tom Holland is to be believed, will have scenes in which Doctor Strange explains the details of the quantum realm.
