‘Consequence of corrupt system’: NEET aspirant's suicide ahead of re-exam sparks Opposition fury
Rahul blamed the Centre for the aspirant's death and said it was a consequence of a corrupt and broken system being run under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The suicide of a NEET aspirant in Maharashtra's Nagpur has added to the ongoing backlash over paper leaks and exam cancellations. Several Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal, trained guns at the government over the student's suicide, blamming a “corrupt system”. The Trinamool Congress also slammed the Centre over the incident.
In his latest attack on the Prime Minister, Rahul Gandhi referred to the case of a NEET aspirant from Nagpur who died by suicide 14 days ago. The student's family discovered a note she had left behind after returning to their hometown in Madhya Pradesh. In the note, the girl wrote: "I had high hopes of scoring good marks in the NEET exam, but now there is no guarantee that I will perform just as well if I have to take the paper again. I'm sorry, Mom and Dad. I've ruined everything."

The girl, from Mauganj district in Madhya Pradesh, was living in Nagpur, where her father works as a cook. The family returned to their village in Mauganj district for her last rites and later found the note in one of her books.
Taking to X, Rahul blamed the Centre for the aspirant's death and said it was a consequence of a corrupt and broken system being run under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that despite repeated exam leaks and the resulting chaos, the education minister continues to remain in office.
"...And Dharmendra Pradhan ji? He's still in his chair today. The same committee. The same transfers. The same investigations. No reforms, no justice. Modi ji, power is not permanent—it comes and goes. But the extent to which you've ruined the education system in 12 years, an entire generation of young Indians is paying the price for it," Rahul wrote.
Kejriwal calls for end to ‘Shiksha Mafia’
Without naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said students who lost their lives amid repeated exam cancellations and paper leak controversies deserved justice, which could only be ensured by dismantling the “shiksha mafia” operating in the country.

“Conducting the examination again is not justice. The education mafia that has captured the system must be eradicated. So many children have already died by suicide. When will these children get justice for their deaths?” Kejriwal said in a post on X.
TMC targets Centre over aspirant’s death
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) also expressed condolences over the death of the NEET aspirant from Nagpur and blamed the Centre for the distress caused by recurring examination irregularities.
“A young NEET aspirant is gone, leaving behind shattered dreams and a grieving family. But how many more tragedies will it take for Narendra Modi ji to wake up? A government that cannot safeguard the integrity of examinations is failing its youth,” the party said in a post on X.
TMC chief Mamata Banerjee also attacked the govt, saying that 'the Centre has turned merit into a gamble and hope into despair.'
She pointed her attack towards BJP and said that the inhumane regime continues to repeatedly & shamelessly BETRAY its youth. "This is not an isolated tragedy. It is a grim reminder of the CRUSHING UNCERTAINTY that has come to define India’s education system under BJP."
