The incident took place in the stretch of the creek that passes through Hiranandani Estate.

N Kulkarni, police inspector from Kasarwadavli police station, said: “We have found that the Bhoyes had gone to catch fish. They seem to have slipped somehow and fallen into the creek. Nobody saw them fall, so we are not sure what happened exactly.”

Some locals saw them struggle in the water and ran to get help, but no one was close by and by the time people dived in and reached the spot, the duo had drowned, the police said.

“We started search operations in the night with floodlights. Late Monday morning we pulled out Rajesh’s body. We are now searching for the boy,” Kulkarni said. Currently, both police and fire brigade officials are at the site. “We have registered a case of accidental death; further probe is on,” he added.
