Victim asks for transfer of her case to the UT police; guest house owner’s driver, six Ambala men arrested.

A day after the husband of a 21-year-old Manimajra woman gangraped at a guest house in Morni claimed that two cops from Dera Bassi were also involved in the crime, the couple now wants the case to be transferred to Chandigarh.

Both the victim and her husband said on Sunday that it were the UT police who took swift action on her complaint and therefore should probe the matter.

“We want the case to be transferred to Chandigarh Police. Earlier, when we approached the Panchkula police, they refused to take up the matter and sent us to the Manimajra police station. They immediately took up the matter and registered the case and made arrests. Chandigarh Police should probe the case as we are not satisfied with Panchkula police’s investigations,” said the victim’s husband, adding that he would meet the UT director general of police in this regard.

‘Probing flesh trade’

Meanwhile, two days after guest house owner Sunny and manager Avtar Singh were arrested, Panchkula police have arrested seven more accused.

Panchkula deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Rajendar Kumar Meena said Sahab Singh, 45, of Kandai village in Raipur Rani, was arrested late on Saturday night.

He was Sunny’s driver and used to pick up and drop the girls who were called by Sunny at the guest house, said sources, adding that he had dropped the victim near Mattanwala village in Chandimandir.

In another breakthrough, six Ambala men were arrested on Sunday. They have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh, Karan Sharma, Manjeet Singh, Vikash, alias Vicky, Shadi Ram and Ajay Kumar. Sources said Sunny had called them to the guest house after sending pictures of girls. Police will seek their remand on Monday.

“Sunny was running a flesh trade racket. Many other girls had also been called there on several occasions. We are probing it,” said an official.

The victim has alleged eight to 10 men, including two cops, raped her daily in the guest house between July 15 and 18. A special investigation team (SIT) headed by Panchkula assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Anshu Singla is probing the case.

Meanwhile, Sunny and Avtar Singh are in Chandigarh Police custody and lodged in the Burail jail. The DCP said they have moved an application to get their production warrants. The Panchkula police have also rounded up three other people on suspicion. Senior officials said they are scrutinising the CCTV footage.
