A fireman has become a sensation on the internet after a video of him catching a baby thrown from the third floor of a burning building in Decatur city of United States’ Georgia state went viral on social media.
The helmet camera footage, released by the Dekalb County fire rescue department, shows Captain Scott Stroup rescuing the baby.
“Third generation DCFR firefighter Captain Scott Stroup can be seen catching one of the children that was dropped from the third-floor balcony. Great job by all hands operating on this fire as several lifesaving grabs were made that night,” the fire department posted on Facebook along with the video.
According to reports, the incident took place on January 3 and the fire was so massive that firefighters had to rescue the residents before they could deal with the fire.
“It was literally all hands on deck. Before we had even put a hose line on the fire, we had firefighters that were bringing adults out, we had firefighters that were catching babies, one after another,” capt Eric Jackson said, according to USA Today.
“I mean we were catching babies like footballs, literally,” he added.
The video received more than 300K views, 3,000 shares and 2,000 reactions on Facebook and has been widely shared on other social media platforms as well.
Since being shared, the video has been flooded with comments, with many hailing the fireman as a “hero”.
