India have absolutely stormed past the West Indies thanks to Shreyas Iyer's maiden T20I century. The Men in Blue won the game with 8 wickets and 32 balls to spare. What an explosive start to the series for India.
What a knock from Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer brings up his first T20I hundred in style, smashing Roston chase for a massive six. This has been nothing short of a spectacle from the Indian captain, as he finally looks settled as the skipper of the side. he hit this in just 42 deliveries, the fastest by an Indian against West Indies. Massive, massive knock!!
Shreyas, Ishan stitch 100-run stand
It has been a partnership for the ages between Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. The duo have absolutely toyed with the West Indies bowling as they stitched century stand in 56 balls. India are now racing towards their target.
Was that out?
Ohh, that was a close call from the third umpire. Ishan Kishan slammed the ball, as Matthew Forde took a diving catch. However, the umpires referred to the third umpire. Replays showed that there was some part of the ball touching the ground, and it was given not out. It was a pretty close call, and the West Indies players and coaching staff could not believe their luck.
50 for Shreyas Iyer!!
It has been a captain's knock for Shreyas Iyer, as he finally comes good since becoming the skipper of the T20I side. He has reached his 11th half-century in T20Is. In fact, this is his first 50+ score in the shortest format after 10 innings. He has been leading the charge as India are in pole position to win this game.
50-run partnership up!!
India's middle order have proved their mettle after the loss of the openers early. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan have played smart and risk-free cricket, but have managed to score runs at a rapid pace, as after 9 overs the scoreboard reads 94. The duo have stitched a half-century partnership for the third wicket.
Ishan, Shreyas ticking things along!!
India have been playing above the required run rate getting boundaries from time to time. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer are in the middle, as India look in a comfortable spot, despite the loss of two early wickets.
50 up for India!!
Despite the loss of early wickets, India have managed to keep the runs flowing. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are now looking to solidify the innings, as the Men in Blue have crossed the 50-run mark. In fact, they have scored at a rate of more than 10 runs per over in the powerplay.
Sanju Samson gone!!
The West Indies spinners are indeed spinning a web arounf India. After Roston Chase got Abhishek Sharma, it was time for Akeal Hossein to strike. The left-arm spinner bowled a shortish delivery that cramped Sanju for room as he tried to hit a shot straight over the bowler's head but ended up hitting it to the bowler's hand.
Abhishek departs!!
The ploy of getting spinners to bowl to Abhishek Sharma has proved handy once again. He did play an entertaining 21-run knock from 10 balls, but it was Roston Chase who got his wicket. India have lost a wicket in just the third over of the game.
Abhishek Sharma starts with a bang!!
India begin the run chase of 172 in style. Abhishek Sharma has started off with a bang, as he smashed Matthew Forde all around the park. Two fours and a massive six in the over meant that the Men in Blue scored 15 in the first over.
India announce squad for NZ T20Is, Bhuvi returns
As India prepare to bat and chase down 172, the BCCI have announced the squad for their next assignment- the three-match T20I series vs New Zealand. The biggest news from the squad is that Bhuvneshwar Kumar marks his return to the T20I squad. Check out the full squad here.
India need 172 to win
West Indies are all out for 171 runs, as Axar Patel took the final wicket of the day. India now need 172 to win. It should not be a big ask for India, especially if Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson go slam bang at the top.
Rutherford departs, Mayank relieved
It has not been a good night with the ball for Mayank Yadav. He has certainly lost his pace, as he is heavily relying on slowers and cutters thoughout his spell. He has also gone for 40 runs in his 4 overs. However, the sole ray of light in what has been a dismal day for the pacer came in the fag end of his spell, when he took the wicket of the dangerous Sherfane Rutherford.
Fifty for Rutherford
Sherfane Rutherford is the only hope remaining for West Indies if they want to go past a respectable total after going 8 wickets down. The Mumbai Indians batter has been looking in sparkling form as he is hitting sixes and fours with ease.
India go past 150!
Arshdeep goes short and Akeal Hosein dispatches it for a maximum! Poor delivery and with this, the Windies go past the 150-run mark.
West Indies 155/7
Dream debut for Naman Dhir!!
What a night that the debutant Naman Dhir is having. He has completely rattled West Indies with three wickets in three overs. His latest victim becomes Shamar Springer. There has been a pattern to all his wickets tonight. Before the delivery of the dismissal, Naman Dhir gets smashed for a six. But all's well that end's well!!
Stunning catch from Ishan Kishan!!
West Indies are continuing to fall like a pack of cards. They now lose their 7th wicket as Matthew Forde departs. Kuldeep Yadav takes the second wicket of the night. But this wicket was all about Ishan Kishan. The star batter took a terrfic sliding catch in the deep to get rid of the batter. Even the bowler, and the fielder himself, were surprised!!
Naman Dhir strikes again!!
What a debut Naman Dhir is having!! First he removed the in-form Shai Hope. In his very next over, he removed another dangerous batter in the form of Romario Shepherd. In his very first T20I match, Dhir has proved to be the man with the golden arm for India.
Another wicket as Kuldeep strikes!!
Kuldeep Yadav has been the most expensive bowler tonight as he went for 24 runs in his first two overs. However, he redeemed himself in his third over, as he took the wicket of Roston Chase, trapping him LBW. West Indies have thus suffered another mini collapse after the good partnership between Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford.
Shai Hope slams fifty….and gets out
It was a brilliant partnership blooming for West Indies. Shai Hope continued his brilliant form from the ODI series as he hit another half-century. However, in just the next ball after slamming the fifty, Naman Dhir struck with his wicket, as he took his first international scalp.
50-run stand!!
Sherfane Rutherford and Shai Hope have brought West Indies back on track with a good stand for the fourth wicket. Rutherford has scored 30 of these runs, but he is looking the fiercer of the two batters, as he is plauing according to the merit of the ball and keeping the field in mind. This is some clean hitting from the left-hander. On the other hand, Hope is nearing his fifty.
Rutherford, Hope trying to get WI back
As India get a stranglehold over the West Indies batters, the pair of Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford are looking to get them back into the game. They targetted Kuldeep Yadav, as the duo hit one six each in the over. The duo are stitching a crucial partnership.
Good comeback from Mayank Yadav!!
Mayank Yadav went for 16 runs in his first over, and Shreyas Iyer brought him back into the attack, after West Indies were in trouble after losing three quick wickets. He had a good over, giving away just 8 runs, with four of those coming via leg byes in the last delivery.
Two more quick wickets
After Arshdeep Singh struck in the fifth over, West Indies seemed to be rattled as they lost two more wickets in the next over. At first, it was Shimron Hetmyer who was run out thanks to a good bit of fielding from Shreyas Iyer. In the same over, Axar Patel completely bamboozled the dangerous Rovman Powell as he tried to slog the ball. However, it missed everything and rattled his stumps. It was double wicket maiden for the spinner.
