Age 53IndiaINDIA
Right Handed Batsman

It’s hard to plot Rahul Dravid on the graph of cricketing greats. There has rarely been a historic Indian win without a vital contribution from Dravid, yet, playing in the Tendulkar era, his achievements have been eclipsed by the blinding presence of the great "Little Master".

Born in Indore on January 11, 1973, Rahul Sharad Dravid made his ODI debut in April 1996 before announcing his Test pedigree two months later alongside Sourav Ganguly at Lord’s. Revered as "The Wall" for his unflappable technique and legendary powers of concentration, he anchored the Indian top order across 164 Tests. Over a distinguished Test career, Dravid scored 13,288 runs at an average of 52.31, including 36 centuries and 63 fifties, topped by a marathon career-best 270 against Pakistan. He also pulled off 210 catches in Test cricket, standing as one of the most reliable slip fielders in the history of the game.

In One-Day Internationals, Dravid proved his adaptability by transitioning into a dependable middle-order batter and full-time wicketkeeper when the team required balance. Across 344 ODIs, he accumulated 10,889 runs at an average of 39.16 with 12 centuries and 83 fifties, alongside 196 catches and 14 stumpings. He forged iconic partnerships throughout his career, most notably sharing a famous 376-run fifth-wicket stand with VVS Laxman at Eden Gardens in 2001 to script a miracle against Australia. Whether grinding out a match-saving century overseas or taking the gloves for team harmony, Dravid consistently sacrificed personal comfort for collective success.

Taking charge as India's full-time captain in 2005, Dravid led the nation through a period of structural transition while achieving landmark away victories. Under his leadership across 25 Tests (8 wins) and 79 ODIs (42 wins), India secured historic Test series triumphs in the West Indies in 2006 and England in 2007. His tactical discipline was on full display in Kingston in 2006, where he scored heroic fifties on a treacherous pitch to seal India’s first Test series win in the Caribbean in 35 years. These defining moments underscored a leadership style grounded in grit, meticulous preparation, and selfless execution.

Following his playing career, Dravid reshaped Indian cricket's future by coaching the Under-19 and India A setups before serving as head of the National Cricket Academy. He subsequently took over as Head Coach of the senior national team in 2021, culminating in a triumphant campaign at the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Beyond his over 24,000 international runs and hundreds of catches, Dravid's legacy is defined by unmatched sportsmanship, structural excellence, and unwavering dedication to the game.
