A major incident was averted as the fracture in railway tracks on the Pune-Mumbai route was detected on Tuesday morning. The crack was detected by a railway employee on daily patrol. The trains plying on the track were stopped and the crack was fixed.

Due to rail fracture between Thakurwadi and Monkeyhill stations in Mumbai division, only two trains - 12127 down intercity express and 11007 Deccan Queen express - were affected and were late by 1 hour and 15 minutes respectively.(HT REPRESENTATIONAL PICTURE)

“Due to rail fracture between Thakurwadi and Monkeyhill stations in Mumbai division, only two trains — 12127 down intercity express and 11007 Deccan Queen express — were affected and were late by 1 hour and 15 minutes respectively. However, other trains are running on time,” reads a statement issued by the Pune division of Central Railway.

Both the trains are instrumental in connecting daily commuters and workforce from Pune and Mumbai. The tracks are checked regularly for damages, according to the railway officials. However, a coach of the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT)-Madurai Express had derailed early on July 5 at Khandala. No passengers were injured in the mishap, though the derailed coach was badly damaged. The derailment had led to the cancellation of four trains that run between Pune and Mumbai, including Intercity, Sinhagad express and Pragati express, besides the Pune-Karjat-Pune train.
